How can I assess the state of ecological components?
Assessing the State of Good Environmental Status and the Pressure Assessment are approaches developed in ODEMM which can allow you to carry out an assessment of the ecological components of the system.
What ecosystem services are relevent in my system?
The Linkage Framework allows you to identify which ecosystem services are relevant for your system by linking the ecological components present in your system with the services they contribute to. The Ecosystem Services Typology fully defines and describes each service to enable you to carry out a full assessment of the benefits.
What do we need to do next in terms of operationalising EBM (ecosystem-based management) in European regional seas?
In the last chapter (Chapter 9) of the ODEMM final report, we reflected on the next steps to operationalise EBM in Europe’s regional seas, suggesting 10 keys steps towards this. Read these here.
Is it possible to identify which bodies/actors are relevant for any decision around a particular environmental objective or management option?
ODEMM’s nested governance structure is a tool that can be used to identify all relevant bodies from the regional and institutional policy level through to the sector-specific concerns relevant for any decision around EBM in Europe’s regional seas.
What kind of governance model might most likely lead to successful implementation of EBM in a regional sea?
Ecosystem-based management (EBM) operationalised at the level of the regional sea calls for appropriate governance models. ODEMM designed and consulted on a range of alternative governance models that could be explored for this purpose.
